Walead Beshty
Walead Beshty, a photographer and writer currently based in Los Angeles, was born in the UK in 1976. Receiving his MFA from Yale in 2002, he currently teaches at the University of California and also at the Art Department of the California Institute of the Arts. Beshty has remained an active critic and lecturer while pursuing an important career as a fine arts photographer. Stemming from his commentary on the artistic models of the 60s and 70s, Beshty often uses satire to investigate the formation of contemporary culture through plastic concepts, drawing our attention to today’s complex of ongoing social contradictions. Among his recent solo exhibitions are shows at Wallspace in New York and the Yale School of Art.
